Any hope of vision for me?

No, no! Why? According to my learned eye doctors, it is not medically possible at this time but one never knows. One should never give up hope that some or one day soon there will be a medical breakthrough. It is happening all of the time so why not hope?

Am I hopeful? Definitely so! I live in hope. I am extremely lucky that for 25 years I was able to see the world through limited vision and for this I shall always be grateful. There are so many blind persons who never had what I did. I was able to see so much and to appreciate so much. I saw the sun! I saw the moon, the stars, and the skies! I saw rainbows, white capped waves, and jade green and deep blue seas! I saw birds and butterflies! I saw skaters on the ice, the flickering of Christmas lights, and cookies and cakes on tables, buffet tables, and so much more! Above all, I saw Jesus in a manger with Mary, Joseph, and the angels as well! I saw the faces of my beloved parents and brothers! I saw the faces of others! I saw so much and shall forever remember.

If I am not fortunate enough to regain it then for sure! I'll regain it when I see God and my loved ones in the next world and what a day that will be!

Toys that dance in my head

Truth be told, I am and shall forever be a child at heart. I am like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to my favorite toys. I used to love to look at the various colors of balls, tea sets, and so much more. I used to love to look at the little doll houses, the dolls, furniture, and all of their clothes and accessories.

I can still remember the colors and shapes of them all but now, with precious little vision at my disposal, I need to remember them through my mind's eye. I can tell you that they sure dance in front of me whenever I choose to dust off those precious memories and bring them back to life.

I can still conjure up memories of those exquisite doll houses with the rooms, kitchens, chairs and tables. The dolls with their fancy costumes. The chimneys and the sloping roofs. The bright colors of the houses themselves.

I can still remember the yellow, red, and green balls with matching bats. I can still remember the delicate little cups and saucers with their jugs, sugar bowls, and milk jugs. Matching tea sets waiting for me to have a tea party.

Fr. Knolly Knox

I can honestly say that this wonderful friend of the family had something that was truly unique to me. His voice certainly matched his qualities. If you were to ask me to describe this gentle priest, I would say that his voice told it all.

At one time I did have enough vision to see what he looked like but, truth be told, I used to love to listen to his soft and gentle voice and this told me everything that I needed to know. Fr. Knolly's voice was an audio description of the man himself and there are not many people that I could honestly say this about. I do not even know if it is at all possible to be able to listen to a voice and then develop a profile of their personality from it. Yet for Fr. Knolly, this is how I envisioned him.

His voice was soft, gentle, crisp, and clear. His voice was almost always calm and emitted tones of humor, warmth, and sincerity. This is how I shall always remember him.

I will always think of him with a smile, a twinkle in his eyes, and a brisk step to his walk. I was always able to distinguish his footsteps as he used to come bounding up the stairs of our home. They were quick easy steps.

Rest in peace Fr. Knolly!

Memories of a bus ride

This particular bus ride happened when I had enough vision to see out the window of the bus. It was memorable to me because it took place on a trip from Montreal to a lake in the country. It was summertime and as the bus traveled along I had the pleasure of sitting in a window seat. I could see outside and marveled as the bus drove quietly on its way.

I saw trees in full bloom loaded with thick green leaves. I saw fields with animals walking and standing around in them. I saw kids playing in the fields, as well, and I saw some houses with clothes hanging on wash lines.

I admired the shrubbery as we drove along and I loved seeing all the different colors. As the bus neared the lake I sat and took it all in.

The peaceful lake with boats sailing gracefully by. There were some swimmers, too, and people walking on the beach. Oh, how I loved it all and I can still bring up this memory whenever I need to.

Of course, I can no longer see and appreciate these sites, but you know what? I have my precious memories well preserved in my memory bank forever.

Memories of a waterfall

Oh, how well-preserved is this memory! It is saved in my memory bank forever. It sits there and can be recalled at a second's notice. I often use this memory to help me relax and recharge, but most of all I use it to help me visualize those huge plumes of white water shooting into the air and then falling backwards into the lake.

I can clearly remember the waterfall at Niagara and others as well. Just sitting there and watching the white water go on its way. I also remember one that I saw in a small lake as I sat there with my friends on a grassy bank on a summer's day.

Water has also fascinated me, from the ocean to the lake and from the lagoon to the river. That huge mass of white water jumping high into the air is no different. Ah yes, my memory of a waterfall forever.

My talking Bible

Yes, you heard me correctly! My talking Bible and I have had this now for a few years. It really did not cost me very much, about $70. It looks like a small book and I can easily fit it into my purse or briefcase.

It works by batteries and also comes with a power adapter. The buttons are on the side and there is an on/off switch, and selector buttons for choosing the chapters within the various books of each testament. The narration is in a very clear voice as well.

I take my talking Bible with me on trips and I enjoy listening to it. It does the job for me and the good thing about it is that I can shut it off and then return to my spot when I turn it on again as it remains in the spot that I left it at before shutting it off. My talking Bible is truly a Godsend.

Who would have thought that something like this would have been possible? Of course, there are online Bibles available as well and before my little gem came along I had obtained a Bible on CD. It sure beats having to store a Bible in Braille that would take up so much room on my book shelf.

I'm Donna J. Jodhan your friendly accessibility advocate wishing you a terrific day and inviting you to come purchase my audio mysteries at www.donnajodhan.com. For literally pennies you can now enjoy exciting and dramatic mysteries written and recorded by me.
