In order to ensure that I have received the correct number of notes when I visit the bank, I need to carefully count them to ensure that all is well. In addition, I need to ensure that the notes do not stick together. At the best of times, they do indeed stick together.
So, here is what I do! I sit quietly. Then I remove my notes from the envelope that contains them. Then very slowly and meticulously, I begin my counting. I make sure that my full attention is on this task and nothing else, for one misstep and I would have to return to the beginning and start all over again.
I do not think that this process is any different, whether or not one is sighted or vision-impaired. The trick of the trade is all about devoting full attention.

Counting money with the bank teller
This is my way of making sure that the teller at the bank gives me exactly what I have asked for. That is, the exact amount of money.
So this is how it works. I approach the customer counter and there I give over my bank book to the teller telling them how much I need and in what denominations.
Next I give them my bank card and they ask me to enter my pin number. Then, after a few minutes, they return with my money. They proceed to count the money in front of me and I listen carefully for the sound of the money being counted.
The teller counts orally as she goes and I count silently to myself along with her. Then the teller asks me if I would like my money in an envelope or in my hand. I chose the former.
Now my visit to the bank is over and I am sure that I have received the correct amount before I leave. It works for me as someone who is blind but I am sure that it is not much different for someone who is sighted.

Checking the money twice
For some time now, we in Canada have had to deal with a set of new currency. That is, our bank notes are now of a different texture and feel and we need to be more careful each time we handle these notes.
For the most part, these notes have been received quite well. There are Braille dots on the notes to help a blind person decipher them. The notes are made of a plastic-like fabric so that they last longer and are more durable. The notes have different colors but for me that does not help as my vision is not good enough to help me.
However, here is the drawback for me. The notes often stick to each other so that when I go to remove them from my wallet, I have to make doubly sure that I am only withdrawing what I need. The notes are a bit slippery when placed against each other so it takes a bit of getting used to. This is why I have to check my money at least twice each time I handle it.

Sorting my money bills
This is one thing that I am always very careful about when engaged in doing. Yes, sorting my money bills. In the normal scheme of things I am conscious of having to ensure that I place my bills in my wallet in such a way as to be able to quickly find what I am looking for, but this is not all. I also have to make sure that I know at all times how many of each denomination I have.
So, this is how I do it. Twenty dollar bills are carefully counted and placed in a specific section of my wallet. The same for the ten dollar bills and the five dollar bills. The one and two dollar denominations are coins so no problem here, and if I have bills that are in larger denominations than a twenty then each go into a specific section after having been counted. Now then, when I get change from purchases I make sure to know which denominations I have received before placing them in to their specific section of my wallet.
Easy you say? Yes, if I am conscientious to keep order in my wallet. But in the case of the Canadian dollar bills, they often stick to each other and I have to be even more careful. That is, the newer Canadian dollar bills. Thank God for those trusty Braille dots that have been placed on them.
