Lingering memories forever: Travel 2024
First to Montreal in April and such a wonderful trip.
A great first face-to-face meeting with the Air Canada advisory group.
Then the wonderful visit with Cathie and Chris and so many pleasant and memorable times.
Then, looking forward to my trip to the UK and to see Jilla, Angie, and Doug and Rowan, and to meet the newest member, Baby Noala.
And oh yes! Must not forget Kahlua and Jilla’s neighbours and friends.
Then, blessed SR Bernadette.
It is going to be a wonderful time when Jilla and I travel to Europe to catch our River Boat cruise on the Rhine. More travel after this when I visit Mom in August.

Old friends die hard! Seeing Mary and Yvonne again
Believe me when I tell you that whenever I get to reconnect with friends from so long ago, the feelings are so very rewarding. This is how I felt in July 2023 when I saw Mary and Yvonne and Yvonne’s husband Steve. I'd met Mary and Yvonne so many years ago when I lived and studied in Liverpool, England.
We were all so very young then; simply kids who just wanted to be friends and to enjoy each other’s friendship. Mary and Yvonne were so kind to me, generous and welcoming as they accepted me into their company. And being so far from home made it even more precious.
We had a lovely time that day in 2023. We ate, drank, and shared old and precious memories.
Angie and I enjoyed being with them and at the end of it all? My memories forever! More precious moments to add to my memory bank!

Rest in Peace my dearest aunt. Auntie Margaret is gone
I can only take a few minutes to express my total gratitude for having had Auntie be a part of my life. She came into it when I was just 11; from then until now she remained my favourite Auntie.
Easy going, humble, humorous, and always willing to listen and lend a hand! Auntie made so many cherished memories with Mom and me. Her visits to Trinidad and Canada were such memorable ones.
We did so many things together.
We shopped, dined, walked, cleaned house together, and so much more.
And despite always having had such a gentle and quiet disposition, I always sensed that she had to deal with a huge chunk of sadness. Not sure what it was all about but I can only speculate.
Auntie lived most of her life in Norway, so very far away from her homeland.
I know that she had always wanted to return home to stay. And during the final months of her days she had expressed a desire to visit one last time.
It was not to be but her wonderful memory shall forever live on in my memory bank.
Thank you Auntie for having been a part of my life! I shall forever be grateful for having known you! Your gentleness, kindness towards me, and refreshing and lively spirit shall live on with me.
Thank you for having visited with us when Mom turned 70 and for having come to visit when Robert was so very ill.
Till we meet again!

Some Christmas holiday delights
Call me a kid at heart but I would not have it any other way! Yes! I simply love to enjoy all of those wonderful Christmas cookies, the rum cake, minced fruit pies, and cranberries.
My thoughts go back to when I was a kid and I would help Mom and Granny in the kitchen to cook and bake. The house would be filled with yummy aromas. Lots of laughter, chatter, and the radio playing Christmas songs.
These are only just a few of my holiday delights. So many memories to recall and so many more to make. With Mom and family and memories of Granny, Dad, and Robert.
This is the beauty of my holiday delights.
I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! Happy holidays! But most of all! A 2024t hat will bring us lots of blessings, good things, and hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.

My favourite time of the year: Those fragrant Easter lilies
As they often say, blind/vision-impaired persons probably possess a keener sense of smell at the best of times, but nevertheless for me! Those Easter lilies sure fill my heart and mind with warmth and all good feelings.
I simply love to touch them, smell them, and I just stand there next to them and appreciate them!
They bring back so many memories of unforgettable moments to me! I smile as I interact with my precious Easter lilies!

Cherished memories forever! So long to the Christmas tree for another year
If anything, my beloved Christmas tree is one of the few constants in my life. Or should I clarify by saying that it is Mom’s Christmas tree! Each year Mom and I take great pains to fetch her beloved treasure from a shelf high up in her storage cupboard. I climb onto a chair and then I gingerly remove the somewhat heavy box and then hand it down to her waiting hands. Then together we walk to the designated spot on her counter where the Christmas tree will stand until after the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6.
Mom is very firm on where she wants her beloved Christmas tree to stand. It sure is a beautiful work of art that she bought so many years ago and she turns it on almost every day during the Christmas holiday season. Visitors to her home continue to admire it.
I am always very sad whenever the time comes to remove it and put it away but that’s life, and as I say to myself, it’s all in a day’s work.

Oh my beloved lady, Granny: Memories of Granny
She is never far from my mind! She lurks in the shadows of my memory! She is with me when I first rise in the mornings and she is the last thing that I think about before I sleep.
My beloved Granny! Gentle, generous, and always there for me! She taught me so much! She helped me to discover and build my values. She criticized whenever she found it necessary but at the same time she encouraged me! That was my Granny!
Granny nurtured, encouraged, scolded, and tutored. Granny applauded, expressed disappointment whenever she felt it necessary. Granny laughed, suggested, and was always there to place her loving arms around me whenever I need her to do so.

Will never forget these dates: Memories forever
This is exactly how I feel as I sit here writing this blog entry. It’s all about my recent momentous trip to Britain and I’ll just mention those very special dates.
July 13 – Meeting Connie and Sister Bernadette after so many years. I first met Connie when I was studying in Montreal at Concordia University and what a wonderful girl she was then. And now she is the same gentle, generous, and kind person.
I had met Sister Bernadette when I studied in England as a teenager. She is the same vibrant, lively, and always ready-to-listen Nun! Our walk in Region Park was one never to forget! The fragrances, the warm British sun, and children laughing, it was simply overwhelming!
July 14 – My graduation and Jilla and Angie were with me! Hearing my name called as I walked across the stage and then the shout out from Princess Anne! I could not see anything but hearing was enough! The toast with Jilla and Angie afterwards and then a never to be forgotten lunch with Jilla, Angie, Connie, and John and Lizbet. Familiar voices from past and present surrounded me!
July 16 – Meeting my Liverpool family at a noisy bar and then the walk on July 17 in Sefton Park where Uncle Lance used to enjoy his times.
July 20 to 23 – Unforgettable moments in Normandy: Walking with Jilla through those war cemeteries and on the beaches of Normandy! I got to walk the walk!
Memories forever! I heard it all, smelled it all, touched it all, and tasted it all! It did not matter that I could not see!

Fun memories
Just a few to share with you:
Making snow angels with Helena and Wil!
Sitting in a hot tub with Helena and Wil and then getting out and racing around Helena and Wil’s back deck with snowflakes coming down in droves!
Walking in the snow through Trenhomme Park with my best friend Char!
The snow banks were waist high and our boots crunched as we walked.
Walking down Saint Catherine’s Street in Montreal with Char, looking through the fully decorated store windows and then ducking into a fast food restaurant for hot chocolate and a snack!
I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! Happy holidays! But most of all, a 2023 that will bring us lots of blessings, good things, and hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.

Two wonderful ladies! Remembering Gina and Shelly at work
It does not matter that it was so many years ago! These were two very wonderful ladies who made very sure that I was always happy and smiling at work.
They took care of me personally and professionally. They treated me equally and they never hesitated to assist me. Most of all, they never seemed to be uncomfortable around me because of my vision impairment.
Gina introduced me to her husband, John, and he joined our little team of happy goers. Shelly introduced me to her husband-to-be at that time, Rob, and he was just such a wonderful person to meet.
Our chats went way beyond work; it was all about having fun and learning from each other. My life at that time was certainly enriched by Gina and Shelly.

How I long to see you again! Where are you, my sweet St Lucia
So many memories for me to cherish and I can only look forward to creating many more of these as soon as the pandemic enables me to go back to a new normalcy.
My sweet Saint Lucia! Warm, friendly and welcoming. All of those sweet Saint Lucians, melodious music, and yummy cuisine. Lazy days simply enjoying and lapping up everything around me. Fresh air and sandy beaches! Gentle ocean seas for me to frolic in. Birds to treasure and oh, so much more!
Juicy fruits, blue skies with milky white clouds floating lazily by and doing nothing but simply taking advantage of so much being offered. Yes, my sweet Saint Lucia and how much I yearn for you! I'll be there as soon as I can travel! I know that you're not going anywhere, just waiting for me to arrive!

Reflections: Memories of a carnival
I am not really sure how much I actually enjoyed carnival time. I always found it to be very noisy and confusing and not much in it for me as I could not really appreciate the costumes as a blind/vision-impaired child.
Yet, I remember the sweet songs and sounds of the steel drums. The holidays that we were given from school and our spending these at the beach.
There is one memory that stands out, however. This being the carnival queen show on the Sunday evening before carnival Monday. Here I will always remember how well the announcers described the costumes being worn by the contestants. My Mom and Granny and I would sit and listen to the show on the radio because there was no TV coverage. I truly enjoyed listening to the descriptions.

Looking back! Memories of the botanical gardens
These are such cherished memories for me and especially so as they relate to when I was growing up with very limited vision/sight.
My family used to visit these lush and wonderful gardens so regularly. My brothers and cousins and I would frolic and play on the green grass, chase our dog Yeller around, and play ball and ride our scooter along the paths.
Then we would spend quiet time sitting on the benches, listening to the birds in the trees, and smelling the fragrant flowers. Such wonderful memories, loving moments and cherished days.
It was never difficult for me to visualize my surroundings, the lush green grass that felt so cool to the touch. Tall trees swaying gently in the breeze with Dad describing the flowers and Mom describing other things around me.
Those were times when there was not really anything for me to worry about. Mom, Dad, and Granny took care of everything. Family times were so near and dear to me and those gardens held such special times for me. Ah, yes! Those were the days!

My Christmas Tree
What would Christmas be like without a fully decorated Christmas tree? Lights, ornaments, the angel and the star, and, of course! Loads of presents under the Christmas tree!
These memories bring back such wonderful childhood moments for me. Sneaking into our family's living room late at night to lie under the tree and inhale the fresh fragrant scent of the pine branches. Inspecting the presents under the Christmas tree while making sure not to disturb the decorations. And oh, yes! Take time to gently touch the branches and decorations!
Such wonderful times for me; my beloved Christmas tree! So many expectations, hopes, dreams, and joyous moments. Christmas for me would never be the same without a Christmas tree!
I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! Happy holidays! But most of all, a 2022 that will bring us lots of blessings, good things, and hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.

My doll house
Yes! I admit it! One of my cherished childhood dreams was to have a doll house and after so many years of wishing and dreaming I now have one in my living room. It is my way of returning to my happy childhood days.
The days when I played with dolls, tea sets, and improvised doll houses. Oh, how I loved those days! My overactive imagination used to conjure up all kinds of adventures with my dolls.
They attended school! They went on outings to the beach, to the park, and they even went shopping and got into all kinds of mischief! Then they would come home to Mom and she would cook them a delicious meal after which they would simply crash into bed and enter dreamland!
These were the times when I could create my own world; a world just for me! A world where I could do whatever I wanted! My world!
So, now that my doll house is finally here, I am going to have some new fun. The furniture is just great and all I need now is to buy the dolls to fill my new home!
I thank Stephanie and Sandra for helping to assemble this masterpiece for me. It was quite a chore but their patience and perseverance overcame everything.
I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! Happy holidays! But most of all, a 2022 that will bring us lots of blessings, good things, and hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.

The Little Church
Ah, yes! It's Christmas Eve and time for me to cherish my little church once more. My precious little church with the Nativity scene. Mary and Joseph holding the new born baby Jesus in their arms.
Christmas would never be the same without my little church close to me. My little church! Special and precious! This is where it all began so many years ago and where it will continue for eternity.
The little church! Memories of going with my parents, brothers, cousins, and granny to church on Christmas morning! To listen to the story of Jesus's birth. To visit the manger after mass, and to greet friends outside the doors of the church! Memories for me to savour for the rest of my life!

Ice Skating
One of my favourite holiday season and Christmas activities is being on the ice to enjoy moments of refreshing and wonderful ice skating activities. However, due to the Covid restrictions this will not be possible for me this year.
Yes! I am surely going to miss my ice skating; just to think of being able to skate so freely around the rink with friends and to feel the ice cold wind blowing across my frozen cheeks and through my hair.
However, enter my trusty imagination and memory bank to fill the gap for me! Memories of skating on outdoor rinks and enjoying the many colours of Christmas lights winking back at me as I skated around!
Drinking cups of hot chocolate after my skating adventures!
Enjoying the sounds of kids and parents laughing, singing, and skaters whizzing by!
The sounds of blades of skates rubbing against the ice and so much more!
Oh, how I long to be there once more and to remember those years when my functional vision enabled me to see the festive lights in the background. Well! Here comes my memory to help me out for this year!
I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! Happy holidays! But most of all! A 2022 that will bring us lots of blessings, good things, and hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.

She is waiting for me: No baby sister for me
The memories may be a bit hazy now but they are still clear enough for me to retain in my memory bank. I still remember the early morning when Granny told me that Mom was going to bring home a little sister for me.
Granny was so very excited! She was making phone calls to the family to share the good news but then, a few hours later, my tiny world came crashing down when Granny told me that the little girl did not make it. I just do not remember too much more after this. However, I remember aunties Enid and June going to visit Mom. I remember Tanta Julie coming to visit Granny and to comfort us. I remember my brother Robert being very concerned and I remember little after this.
I guess that in the general scheme of things my baby sister was not meant to be. She was only here for a few hours and then she was gone! To be an angel with the Lord and to wait for me!

Special memories for me: Remembering the Starlight Drive-In
These used to be one of our favourite Sunday evening family outings and how I looked forward to them. The family would pile into the roomy family car and Dad would drive us to the Starlight Drive-In where we would fill our tummies with yummy food and then settle down to watch movies, or in my case, to listen to them.
I would either sit between my parents in the front seat or snuggle against Granny in the back seat. My two brothers were also there and we would all enjoy the wonderful outing.
Sometimes I would fall asleep but most of the time I would simply enjoy the magical moment. The cool fresh fragrant air wafting in through the windows of the family car, crickets singing softly in the night, and folks in other cars chatting softly among themselves.
Ah, yes! Just some more favourite childhood memories to share.
