Here’s hoping for 2023

 

 

 

 

 

 

 I can only hope, can’t I?  And why not?  One never knows how many of my hopes and dreams could come true!

I hope for an end to the War in the Ukraine and that Ukrainians are justly rewarded for their fate, commitment, and dedication to their country! That the Russians are brought to their senses and that they find a way back to common sense.

That the Iranian regime makes a big turn around and decides to become one of humanity.

That starvation around the World starts to decline drastically and that our kids, our precious futures, are saved and become much less vulnerable to us adults!

I hope that climate change becomes more of an action item for the World to deal with.
 
Finally, I dream of a more barrier-free world for persons with disabilities!

How will you celebrate?

 For me, it is all about celebrating with Mom and the family!  For it is the only time that we are able to get together, as we live so far apart.

I always look forward to this time of the year!  To meet, greet, share, give, and appreciate everyone around me!

I simply love to listen to the Christmas carols.  To help Mom decorate her home; to help her bake and then to be the official taster when she cooks all of her favourite dishes.

Meeting the family is special, too!  We catch up, exchange stories, and we leave each other at the end of the day promising to stay in touch!

There is a big difference between celebrating face to face and doing it virtually.  I prefer the former but these days we just have to put up with the virtual way.

Getting nice and comfy

 There is nothing better than being able to get nice and comfy on a cold evening during the Christmas holiday season!  When the wind is banging against the windows, snow is softly falling outside, and there is a warm crackling fire just waiting for you to come close.

You slip on a nice warm pair of socks, gather your favourite drink along with some Christmas cookies and then you find your favourite comfy chair and draw near to the fire.

Ah, yes!  Just smell that crackling fire burning!  Listen to it crackling, and now you are ready to just sit and either read a book or turn on your TV and switch to one of your favourite channels that is about to show a Christmas movie.  Or maybe it will be a Christmas show.

Whatever it is, it is time to just kick back and forget about all of the bad news going on around you!  Time to take some time for yourself!  To just relax, recharge, and refresh!  Time for you to say to yourself,  “Well done” and now it is time to reward yourself for a year where you have worked hard to help make this world a bit better.

So now, just kick back and enjoy this evening!  Watch the flames dance in front of you and savour your hot drink and Christmas cookies!

A different type of Christmas gift

There are so many types of gifts for us to give and receive but over the last few years the fruit arrangement has become very popular and, truth be told, it has become a favourite of mine.

There are so many different fruits to enjoy!  From strawberries and pineapple to bananas and those other types of exotic fruits. The beauty of this type of gift is that you can actually eat it, which is a bit different from the floral bouquet.

I know that we all have our favourites but those fruit arrangements are mine for now.  Fruit eatables are what I lovingly call them!

Celebrating the holidays with Timmy

 

Meet Timmy!  My best friend Char’s lovely little cat!  Timmy is always up for something new!  He is lively, playful, and never afraid to show off his prowess and skills.

No, I do not have a cat of my own, but at this time of the year I really would not mind having a kitty to keep me company!  I would feed him/her lots of treats and bowls of warm milk.  Then I would sit with him/her by a crackling fireside and simply enjoy their company!

I’d tell them lots of stories and then marvel at how well they listen and appreciate listening to me.

Christmas with Tyler

 Meet Tyler James. He is one of my very favourite kids!  He is always up to celebrate the Christmas holiday season and I can tell you that his dreams and wishes are not much different than those of most kids.

However, who says that Christmas is for kids alone?  No, no!  I, too, dream and wish but whereas Tyler’s dreams and wishes are for material things, I wish for more peace, love, harmony, and humanity in our world!

Cherishing a hot drink

 

This is probably a typical Canadian Christmas holiday activity!  Just to sit and enjoy that yummy Christmas hot drink!  Just to smell it, taste it, and place one’s hands around a warm to hot mug!

So many different types of drinks to enjoy, from the non alcoholic to the alcoholic!  Tea and hot chocolate to warm cider and eggnog!  And let us not forget the various types of coffee drinks, various types of tea, and those homemade drinks where we get to use our imaginations to create our own.

Ah, yes, and as we drink we see the Christmas lights wink and blink in the background with a Canadian flag thrown in for good measure!

Even the trees are ready

So many times we ignore our trees at Christmas time but believe me when I say that they, too, have a part to play at this time of the year.

They may not look as if they are ready but stop and think about it!  Their branches are adorned with snow.  As a matter of fact, they are entirely covered with snow and oh, yes, those icicles as well.  Then there are many who hang Christmas lights on them and a lot more.

Our trees are simply always there to be active participants in our holiday season!  So let us give a shout out to our trees! They are reliable, always there for us, and they are not going anywhere!

Fun memories

When it comes to playing in the snow, and especially so at Christmas time, I have so many memories to share!

Just a few to share with you:
Making snow angels with Helena and Wil!
Sitting in a hot tub with Helena and Wil and then getting out and racing around Helena and Wil’s back deck with snowflakes coming down in droves!
Walking in the snow through Trenhomme Park with my best friend Char!
The snow banks were waist high and our boots crunched as we walked.
Walking down Saint Catherine’s Street in Montreal with Char, looking through the fully decorated store windows and then ducking into a fast food restaurant for hot chocolate and a snack!

Something for the kids

 

Ah, yes!  It’s all about the kids but I also humbly admit that I am no better when it comes to hoping, wishing, and participating in the Christmas holiday season!  I’m like a child in a candy shop, and I’m not embarrassed.

For this year, my friends and I started the Dear Mrs Claus letter writing contest and we are pleased to share that the response has been very good.  Kids from around the world 12 years old and under can enter and we have cash prizes for them.

It is just my way of making a contribution to this wonderful holiday season!

Memories of a Christmas Wreath

 

Though I can no longer see them, I still remember them!  Red, green, silver, gold, and decorated in so many different ways.

Mom and I would hang them everywhere and she was so very careful not to crush them.  Even today, we carry out our tradition of wreath hanging and there is no telling how many we end up hanging.  

I just love to touch the berries, feel the bows, and adore the additional ornaments that make up the wreaths.

To me wreaths are so very important when it comes to putting up Christmas decorations, because here is where you can use your imagination to make a wreath.  All it takes is some imagination and no wreath is a bad wreath.  

This year Mom and I will be continuing our wreath hanging tradition and I cannot wait to do this with her.

My beloved ice skating rink

 

Ah, yes!  Just to remember those wonderful times when my friends and I went whistling around the rink with cold fresh air blowing through our hair and across our faces.  I can still hear my ice skates rubbing against the ice and see those Christmas lights winking back at me as I skated around!

We laughed, fell and quickly got up, and simply enjoyed skating around at a very leisurely pace.  We chatted as we skated and just enjoyed the ambiance.

We were there for almost an hour and then it was time to take off our skates and to go to a nice restaurant for a delicious meal.  I cannot tell you how many times we did this during the holidays and even now, as I don’t do this any longer, these cherished memories shall be forever in my memory bank!
