Very pleased: My new track suits

Oh, yes, and this time Stephie really outdid herself. She knew exactly what I was looking for and with the utmost care and patience she went phone shopping at Amazon.

She managed to find the colours that I was seeking. Then, when they finally arrived I was very pleased. I even modeled the first one that I wore for her, using the What’s App.

Lots of fun: Susan's weekly commentaries

Oh, yes, and it is definitely much more than knitting when I get together with Susan every week.

Susan is a going concern. She is effervescent, refreshing, and more than a bag full of knowledge. She is like a breeze in a bottle.

I knit and she checks my work. She guides me along in my knitting and then? I ask her to give me feedback on the headlines of the week and she is always ready to do just that.

I continue to learn so much from this wonderful lady!

Cool heads prevailed: When Stephie temporarily lost my credit card

Circumstances such as these and bumps in the road are always going to take place and the best solution for me is to remain calm and logical. On this day poor Stephie, in her effort to help me all the way, became over zealous and in the middle of it all she temporarily lost my credit card.

So what did I do? Painfully and slowly I helped to trace her steps after I had given my card to her for safe keeping. And presto!  It worked.

There it was!  Lying on the floor inside the door of her apartment. Matter resolved!

We need more little Clairs! Oh Clair

How very fortunate I am to have had such an exceptional lady and human being be part of my life.  Albeit it was just a tad too short.

I got to know Clair when we both became members of the Air Canada advisory committee. From the very start when I met her, she walked the walk with me.

She guided me, listened to my input, was always there to assist, and at the end of the day her presence enriched my experience.

Clair was unique.  She had the gift of giving.  She was generous and kind, patient and compassionate. Clair observed, quietly contributed, and made the world a better place for all of us who were lucky to know her.

Rest in peace, Clair.  Thank you for having fought the good fight. Until we meet again!

What a brave boy! Visiting Christian

This is such a very difficult time for me personally, and why? Despite Christian’s cheerful demeanour, it is so difficult for me to deal with his ordeal. Poor Christian has been battling his illness for over 2 years now.

He never complains and takes everything like a man. Char is so very supportive to him and Mom and I spend the next hour or so chatting with them both. We ask Moya to wait outside with Ramlall.

Oh my Precious one! Going to Church with Precious Pearl

My Precious Pearl is indeed a very special person! I met Pearl many years ago when she became my volunteer driver.

We started with her accompanying me to medical appointments and soon we found ourselves being fast friends. Over the years, we have shared many restaurant lunches, I have played her piano at her home, and we have shared so much more.

Pearl is responsible for bringing me back to Church. She introduced me to Father Ron and to several other parishioners.  Going to Church with Pearl is one of the most special times for me.

Pearl is gentle, kind, generous, and so much more. I am just so fortunate that Jesus has brought her into my life.

My beautiful England! Departing the UK

The UK will always hold a very special place in my heart and, for the life of me, I am at my wit’s end to explain this.

I am overly excited when I fly.  I have a super time meeting with Jilla and Angie and with Mary and Yvonne and Steve and my Liverpool family. I simply adore Doug and Ro and their 2 little girls and then there is Kahlua, Jilla’s darling dog.

I love meeting Charmian and Lucy Anne as well, but there is something else! The good old British hospitality and everything about the UK. The food, the ambiance, and OMG what else?

Then the time comes to depart this beautiful country and here is where I have to work very hard to keep my sadness in check. What is it? I may never be able to explain!

She's a lady! Kahlua the gentle dog

That’s my girl! She's soft and furry!  Gentle and always lets me know whenever she is near. And how does she do this? She walks by and nudges me with her nose.

I play with her in Jilla’s kitchen. Then I sit beside her on the sofa in Jilla’s living room and she lets me pat her gently.

I run my hands down her back, scratch her belly, and talk softly to her.  Not sure if she listens to me but that’s just fine. It’s all about Kahlua forever.

Enjoying a piece of the UK: Sports day with Jilla's family

What a treat it was for me!  Spending some precious hours with Jilla and her family! Doug, Ro, Rae and Noula!  Then Mo!

The weather was perfect English weather!  Fresh air, sun shining down on us, and so much laughter and cheer surrounding me.

I treasured it all and as I fell into bed that night I told myself that yes, indeed!  The future of our kids has to be preserved and protected.

A wonderful refreshing lady! Meeting Lucy Anne again

Oh, my gosh,  I can’t believe how very lucky and privileged I was to be able to meet Lucy Anne again. This is the fourth year that I met her.

Since 2022, I have been meeting Lucy Anne and her friend Charmian each time I visit Jilla in the UK. These are 2 very wonderful ladies; friends of Jilla who are brimming over with so much to say, so much to share, and so many stories.

They are charming!  They are so very welcoming, and they are so very engaging. I love them both to bits but for this year I did not see Charmian as she was away on a cruise.

These 2 ladies are what I call typical English hospitality!

Thank you Mary and Jesus forever: Lourdes forever

As I say to everyone:  If you truly believe that a visit to Lourdes will change you then you must visit Lourdes. But if you do not believe this then better not to waste time visiting this very treasured and holy shrine.

Jilla and I spent 3 very special days at Lourdes. I visited Saint Bernadette’s Church, some of the other churches on the compound, and drank and refreshed myself from the various fountains.

Jilla and I attended 2 outdoor masses and the highlight for me was when I received confession from one of the resident priests.

What an experience!  What a wonderful time to be treasured forever! Thank you Jilla for having accompanied me!

A welcoming home: Angie’s house

Angie’s house is a very warm and welcoming one and now that I have gotten to know Angie so much more, it is always a pleasure to visit her and her wonderful home.

Angie keeps it so very orderly and it is so very easy to remember my way around. Everything is in its place and Angie is always so very accommodating.

I am just so pleased and grateful that we have become such good friends and traveling companions.

Wonderful cousins! Getting together with the Liverpool family

As always, it was such fun to meet my Liverpool family again. Lorraine, Carl, and Tom took time to come see us at the Royal Hotel in Liverpool.

We sat and chatted for about 2 hours, sipped wine and ate snacks. The outdoor table where we sat was situated in the warmth of a British afternoon.

Lorraine was in fine form entertaining us all the way. Carl and Tom did not disappoint. Oh, what a lovely time!

Happy times! Meeting Mary and others

It was such a great time to have met Mary, Yvonne, Steve, and Rosemary this time in June 2025.  Then to meet Mary’s brother Dan for the first time.

Our lunch was wonderful and filled with pleasantries and new things to discover and uncover. The waiter at the hotel took photos of us and this will serve us all well for a life time.

Then Dan took Mary, and Angie and me to Crosby Beach for a nice long walk. The weather was brilliant for the occasion and the sun shone and the winds were quite gentle as they descended on us.

Then Dan drove us back to our hotel. What a great end to a wonderful day.

A delightful lady! Angie and I traveling together

Angie is such a wonderful person and such fun to travel with. She is patient, and her gentle demeanour sure goes a long way to making our travels a very pleasant time.

She does not really panic.  She is very methodical and she plans ahead of time. She is a great guide for me and never flinches when it comes to politely asking folks to give way for us to walk by.

Lots of fun with Angie.

Thank you Susan: Susan and the flowers

This time it was Susan coming to my rescue to help me clean up the dried flowers that had formed a healthy heap on my carpet. Once again, I would never have known that the carpet was littered with dried flowers and leaves from the wonderful bouquet of flowers that Jane and Richard had sent me for my birthday.

Susan got to work quickly and in no time she had cleaned up my carpet. Thank you, Susan.

Thank you Clare: The hot pot experience

It was my first time at a hot pot restaurant and I did this in Vancouver in April 2025. Clare was simply brilliant.

She described everything to me; each food item on the buffet table and even helped me to negotiate and navigate the dishes. Then she served up my meal to me.

Simply delicious, yummy, and filled with wonderful dining. Thank you, Clare.

Wonderful! Birthday lunch with Gaby!

It is always so very refreshing and pleasant whenever we get together. Gaby is very entertaining and, in short, my eyes whenever we go out.

On this day she treated me to a wonderful birthday lunch.  We ate, chatted, laughed and reflected on so many other things.

The meal was yummy and delicious and Gaby even told the waiter that it was my birthday. So she brought a tasty slice of cake for us both along with a candle.

Lots of fun! The largest ice cream cone

OMG and I don’t think that I've ever had the chance to experience this moment. The largest ice cream cone and it was at the Costco shopping facility.

When Stephie brought it to me she did not say anything but I soon found out. I will say that it is a lot easier to experience surprises as a vision-impaired person.

What a surprise and how much Stephie and I laughed about this one!

What a disaster! When the honey spilled

One minute it was in my hand and the next the bottle had crashed onto the floor. Thankfully, pieces of glass had managed to remain in a small space on the floor.

I painstakingly did my best to gather up the shards. But I needed Stephie’s help to finish the job.

Mess? It could have been much worse. Being more careful? Definitely!
