A huge disappointment: When the Hawaiian globe broke

This poor old globe had traveled with me all the way from Hawaii back to Toronto. I had purchased it on my Hawaiian trip in February, 2020, but now I am afraid that it is history.

I had no idea that it would break so very easily. I had picked it up from my table, held it gently in my hands, and then had put it back down on the table. About a minute later and voila! I realized that it was broken.

First I smelled something different and next there was sticky stuff forming into a tiny puddle at the end of my table.

I am just grateful that Shane was nearby to help me clean up and he made very sure that there were no stains left. What a disappointment! My only memento of that wonderful trip.

A great experience: Flea markets

I don't think that I have ever spent too much time at a flea market until I did so at one in the Hawaiian town of Hilo.

It was a fresh, sunny morning when Sue and I stepped into this market. As I listened to the buyers and sellers around me I thanked God that I was able to come here so far away from my home to enjoy this.

I did manage to buy a Hawaiian skirt for Mom and sampled some of the nuts and other goodies, but the highlight was that I got to meet so many wonderful Hawaiian folks.

Memories not to forget: On a Hawaiian cruise

Thank God that my friend Sue and I went on our Hawaiian cruise before the Corona tidal wave struck. Thank God that I had her as my sighted assistant or else things would have been quite a bit different and more challenging for me.

As things turned out, we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and Sue was simply wonderful when it came to guiding me and describing things to me. From beginning to end, when we arrived at the airport and returned to the airport 12 days later, things were very smooth.

The staff on board the Pride of America were very helpful and always there to help. Meal times were without any major hitches and I never felt in any difficulty with Sue to help and staff being watchful.

Our on shore trips were terrific and I thoroughly enjoyed the tubing adventure where Krystal Ijama was simply the best when it came to being my guide. I could not have asked for a more pleasant guide.

I especially enjoyed the morning coffee with Sue on our balcony and the evening chats there as well. The room was so well laid out that I could not have asked for more as a vision-impaired person.
