Thank you Clare: The hot pot experience

It was my first time at a hot pot restaurant and I did this in Vancouver in April 2025. Clare was simply brilliant.

She described everything to me; each food item on the buffet table and even helped me to negotiate and navigate the dishes. Then she served up my meal to me.

Simply delicious, yummy, and filled with wonderful dining. Thank you, Clare.

A great experience: Testing with the AIRA app

I am a great fan and supporter of AIRA and a few months ago when I was asked by Air Canada to test this app at the Toronto Airport I was more than happy to do so.

I have to admit that I did not fully explore its true capabilities at the time but I intend to do so on a future trip.

The agent that I connected with was simply brilliant.  She was patient, pleasant, and stayed all the way with me until I got to the departure lounge. Bravo to AIRA.

It's missing! Where is my Mercedes cushion

Up until recently, my prized Mercedes car cushion resided on one of my wing chairs in my living room. The chair was close to the unit housing my fan coils.

As I do not often check this chair I am not sure when my prized possession went missing and based on logic I am very sure that it was stolen by one of the contractors who regularly enter my condo to clean my fan coil.

Of course I cannot prove anything and I am very sure that I’ll never see this heirloom again. I can only express my disappointment at the one who stole it.

Why would anyone steal from someone who is vision-impaired? When will mankind learn that one should never steal something that belongs to someone else?

Wonderful! Birthday lunch with Gaby!

It is always so very refreshing and pleasant whenever we get together. Gaby is very entertaining and, in short, my eyes whenever we go out.

On this day she treated me to a wonderful birthday lunch.  We ate, chatted, laughed and reflected on so many other things.

The meal was yummy and delicious and Gaby even told the waiter that it was my birthday. So she brought a tasty slice of cake for us both along with a candle.

Something new: The pottery video

It is always so very interesting for me whenever I get to work with someone whose first language is not English. And this was it for Ran and me on that Monday morning.

I had to place all of my trust in Ran who was so patient, so very gentle, and so understanding. I trusted her and she came through with flying colours.

She took our video, went about her business with class and profession, and at the end of it all? We had a perfect video.

Driving in bad weather: Lots of rain and bad weather

Whenever I am driving with anyone in bad weather, especially when it is rain, I get very anxious and nervous. If the bad weather starts before I begin my drive with a friend or family member, I often cancel my trip.

On this day, when Stephie and I drove to a medical clinic, this was the case. So much rain and poor Stephie could barely see her way.

I prayed very hard, kept talking to Stephie and thank goodness she is a terrific driver and did not panic.  The good Lord was with us that awful day.

Thank you Stephie: A new medical building

This is what it was like when Stephie took me to a new medical building for an appointment. New smells to get used to.

New layouts in the building and new staff members.

I just need to keep in mind that a new building is just another new building for me to learn.

An early Christmas thought: Fixing the Christmas plate

It was not so difficult to fix my beloved Christmas plate. Just a wee bit of patience, care, and listening to Shaun’s directions. Voila!  We fixed the plate in very little time.

The plate looks great now and hopefully I’ll find a nice home for it.

A brilliant discovery: Pottery is my Savior

What a pleasant surprise for me! Oh, yes!  Whenever I feel anxious, feel a bit down, or just grasping for ways to stay positive, I use pottery to help me out.

Whenever I am in a pottery studio with Shaun beside me as my faithful pottery instructor, I can think. I can let my imagination run wild, and I can create.

Shaun is a very willing co conspirator.  He never says no to me and instead he enhances and expands my ideas. At the end of it all we come up with something just outside the box!

Thank you Susan: Knitting getting better

It has been a very interesting journey as Susan and I continue our weekly lessons. Susan is so very patient and so very entertaining.  She has absolutely no inhibitions when it comes to teaching a blind/vision impaired person.

She fills my lessons with fun, joy, all kinds of tidbits, and oh yes!  Her views on the news of the day. We chat, we laugh, we share and exchange ideas and at the end of the day? My knitting is getting better.

My baby blanket is progressing quite nicely. The so-called loopies are smaller!

Like a breath of fresh air: Easter lilies

Ah yes!  What would I do without my precious Easter lilies?  They are my hope!  They are my Easter joy and my way of filling my home with freshness and fragrance!

Mom and I have always had a tradition of buying Easter lilies at Easter time. And now that she is no longer able to visit me at Easter time in Toronto, it is just another way for me to keep up those memories of Mom and me celebrating Easter together.

For me, Easter lilies represent so many memories, so many things, and will always be in my heart!

Not for me! Not that mop

There are mops and then there are mops and after much thought the best one for me is the spray mop.

I find it very challenging to use a mop and pail. This is the one where you fill the pail with water, then place the mop in the mechanism and squeeze the water out after dunking it in the water in the pail. The pail is just too heavy for me to maneuver.

So, at the end of the day it is the spray mop for me.
