Yummy! Delicious Dim Sum

I finally think that I have found a Dim Sum restaurant that I really like! The folks here are very helpful, friendly, and above all the food is yummy and delicious.

What’s more, the noise level is very tolerable and these are the ingredients for really enjoying a great meal.

Lots of fun! The largest ice cream cone

OMG and I don’t think that I've ever had the chance to experience this moment. The largest ice cream cone and it was at the Costco shopping facility.

When Stephie brought it to me she did not say anything but I soon found out. I will say that it is a lot easier to experience surprises as a vision-impaired person.

What a surprise and how much Stephie and I laughed about this one!

A fulfilling experience: The stand-in care giver

That’s another name that I have given to myself. Whenever any of Mom’s care givers are unavailable, Donna the care giver is ready.

I help Mom with whatever she needs to retrieve. I help her with the laundry and I am her assistant whenever she desires to cook.

I enjoy it all but I know that it is just for a short time. I love fetching her newspapers, putting away her tray table, fetching her pills, and oh yes!  Sharing snacks with her!

No pain no gain? Another Covid booster

Like every other Covid booster, this most recent one sent me reeling.

I was very unwell and in my confusion in the kitchen I inadvertently threw out some marinated chicken breasts.  Boy, was I unhappy when I realized this.

Guess I need to be more careful the next time I get one of these boosters!

A slap in the face? Touch screens at Wendy's

Just imagine my dismay and total disappointment when I visited the Wendy’s fast food restaurant with Stephie to enjoy a meal. When it came to choosing my drink of choice I could not do it on my own, and why?

Because the touch screen was totally inaccessible and unusable to me as a vision impaired/blind customer.

No! No accessible key pad and Stephie had to do it for me.

Please Wendy's!  Please rectify this asap!

A humorous moment: When the bottle of milk went missing

I can only explain it to myself by saying that on this day I was really tired after coming home from shopping.

I managed to pack everything away, including my large bottles of grapefruit juice, but then I noticed that my bottle of milk was missing. So, I now had to go to work to remember step by step what I had packed away and where I had put each item.

Thank goodness that my memory was functioning on this day. I quickly found the bottle of milk packed among the bottles of grapefruit juice. No different for anyone.

Surprise, surprise! When I found the packets of gravy

This little lesson has definitely taught me that I need to be really organized when I pack things away in my freezer. And it is no different for anyone, whether or not you are sighted or vision-impaired.

I just need to make sure that I pack my things in an orderly and organized manner. And I need to pack them in a logical way as well.

If I had done so in the first place then I would never have been surprised when I found the packets of gravy.

Frustration! When I pulled out the wrong container

It never fails and it does not matter how careful I am or how organized I strive to be. Yes!  It’s all about being able to pull out what I am seeking from my freezer.

This day was no different. I thought I was pulling out ground beef but what did I pull out? A container of mashed potatoes.

Not being able to really see what I am pulling out only makes things more interesting and this time my sense of smell failed me miserably.

Some Christmas holiday delights

Call me a kid at heart but I would not have it any other way! Yes!  I simply love to enjoy all of those wonderful Christmas cookies, the rum cake, minced fruit pies, and cranberries.

My thoughts go back to when I was a kid and I would help Mom and Granny in the kitchen to cook and bake. The house would be filled with yummy aromas. Lots of laughter, chatter, and the radio playing Christmas songs.

These are only just a few of my holiday delights.  So many memories to recall and so many more to make.  With Mom and family and memories of Granny, Dad, and Robert.
This is the beauty of my holiday delights.

I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! Happy holidays! But most of all! A 2024t hat will bring us lots of blessings, good things, and hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.

An irritating moment: Pulling out the wrong thing

Alas!  This is what happens when I do not take enough time to check what I am pulling out from my freezer and that is what happened in this instance.

First off, I was a bit lazy in organizing my single serving meals. And second, if I had taken the time to do so then this would not have happened.

The worst thing that can happen is when I expect to be eating one thing and then it is entirely something else.  This is what I get for not paying enough attention and as a blind/vision-impaired person it is paramount that I am on top of my game at all times.

I really do not like surprises.

For a person with vision it may not be as important in these circumstances because they can see what they are fetching from the freezer. But for me, it is more important.

Yummy moments! New snacks discovered

I am always so very excited whenever I discover new snacks. As a person with a vision impairment, I appreciate this so much more whenever one of my sighted friends helps me to discover them.

Whenever I go shopping with Stephanie she is constantly on the lookout for me and sometimes she sure lands a home run!

The latest are those nuts sprinkled with poppy seeds and sesame seeds.  They are good for me as a diabetic and then she has found me some very yummy bags of dried fruits.

I really appreciate this and do my level best to stay on track with my snacks.

Relearning: The food court

It is only natural that so many food courts in the malls have changed after the pandemic and the one at Fairview Mall was no different.  So, Stephanie had to reacquaint me with it.

Some fast food outlets were gone but there were some new ones.  This food court seemed a bit larger than the pre pandemic one.

We walked around to get acquainted and Stephie was very good at telling me what was there and this sure helped me to get back on track.

The sumptuous smells were still there but now there were new ones to familiarize myself with.

Irritating but funny: Mixing up the leftovers

I guess you can say that the last laugh was on me this time but truth be told this can happen to anyone and it does not matter whether or not one is sighted or blind/vision-impaired.

It just means that for me, as someone who is vision-impaired, I just need to ensure that I can clearly identify all of the items in my fridge and freezer.  And if I had done that in this circumstance then I would never have mixed up my leftovers.

Indeed!  Here I was, getting ready to enjoy a certain meal, but lo and behold when I put it on my plate to warm it in my microwave, it was something else! What a surprise, but lesson learned.

All about Pearl! Celebrating with Pearl

There is never ever a dull moment whenever I get together with my precious Pearl!  She fills my heart and day with so much laughter, joy, and smiles and this day was no different!

This time, Pearl and I were celebrating the successful completion of my Law Degree.  We both had eggs Benedict and smoked salmon!  Pearl always makes me feel so comfortable and never fails to offer to help me with managing my plate.  That is, to help me cut any difficult food if necessary.

Just another day spending time with a very precious person.  Thank you, Pearl!

My dear friend! Seeing Gubby again

Good friends are definitely like good wine, and this was the case when Gubby and I had lunch together after such a long time.  Blame it on Covid, of course!

We lunched at the Old Country Inn restaurant in Unionville and had a very pleasant meal.  Conversation was like old times and we exchanged and shared stories, laughter and so much more.

Then it was time for us to go but I know that there will be many more of these wonderful times!

Frustrating and humourous: Retrieving the wrong package from the freezer

Well, this is what happens when I fail to ensure that my packages are correctly labelled.  No one to blame but me and myself!

The other day I retrieved a package from my freezer thinking that it was a shepherd’s pie, but how wrong I was!  Lo and behold, it was a package of ground beef.  And where did things go wrong for me?

First off, I should have properly labelled the packages.  Second, these two packages are different to the touch and had I been paying sufficient attention I would definitely have picked up on this.

There is no excuse for this and as a blind/vision-impaired person I know only too well how important it is to be able to identify packages in my freezer.

My precious Pearl! Thanksgiving with Pearl 2021

Pearl and I started this tradition a few years ago and Thanksgiving 2021 continued this very precious tradition.

Pearl and I ventured out to the Rosemary and Thyme restaurant and on a rainy day we dined together at a lovely little table for two.  We ate inside because it was a bit cold but the company made up for everything.

We enjoyed a yummy and delicious turkey dinner with all of the trimmings.  We laughed, shared jokes, and we  even took time to be a bit serious at times.

We avoided politics and did not even talk about the continuing pandemic.  At the end of it all Pearl took a photo of me outside my condo building.  All ended well after a lovely Thanksgiving 2021 day.

Satisfied tummies and just sharing Thanksgiving with my precious Pearl.

A tedious task: Rearranging my fridge

Every so often I take time to rearrange my fridge, and trust me when I tell you that this is one of the best time savers for me.

It keeps me on my toes and it also keeps my memory up to date and in check.  By rearranging my fridge I am able to keep tabs on things and when I go to fetch anything I know exactly where to look.

This cuts down on my stress and frustration levels.  I get to arrange my fridge in a logical order that I can make sense of.

Most important: Identifying a package

If I want to ensure that I know what is in a package after I have wrapped it and before putting it in my freezer, then I need to find a way to identify its contents before packing it away in my freezer.

This is what most of us do, sighted or not.  So, no concern  about removing the wrong package if we follow this rule.  No excuses.

When it comes to packages in my freezer, I normally label them with Braille labels or I find another way to do so. This does not mean that on occasion I do not slip up and forget and then I run into big trouble.

Not so humorous after all: When the baked beans ran away

It is the only way that I can describe this particular episode.  Yes, they ran away on me and I only found out when I came across a small puddle of them on the shelf of my fridge.

Suffice it to say that I had inadvertently dropped the container of beans on the floor and did not check the bottom of the container when I picked it up.  In short, the bottom had split and when I put the beans back in the fridge it had naturally begun to leak.

This could happen to anyone: blind, vision-impaired or mainstream.  Ah, yes!  Just another episode in my daily life.
