A new ally: The Wonder Arms exerciser
I bought this nifty little device in late 2017 and I am so happy to report that it has turned out to be everything that I had ever hoped for.
I saw it being advertised on TV and after I had brought my mom’s attention to it we decided to go looking for it.
The friendly sales lady in the store allowed me to try it out and it did not take me very long to decide to buy it.
Much later now and I am very happy with my purchase. What I would say is this! Make very sure that what you imagine it to be is what it really is. That it can do what you desire it to do. I think that this is even more important for someone who is vision impaired.
Having a great sales lady also helps a lot and hats off to the Showcase store at the Fairview Mall in North York, Toronto.

A new discovery: Identifying the voucher books
Being able to identify printed matter is probably one of the most challenging tasks for me, as a person who is vision impaired, but I can tell you that there are those infrequent times when I do catch a big break and I sure take advantage of them whenever they come my way.
The other day was one of those rare times when I had to be able to tell the difference between two specific voucher books. At first I sought my mom’s help to tell me which was which and it was only when she pointed out that one had been used and that the other had not that I finally clued in.
Of course! The used voucher book had stubs that represented where the vouchers were ripped out and the new one did not. Good for me to have realized this.
I explained my discovery to my mom and she agreed. Now, whenever I need to use the second voucher book, and this is because they are vouchers made out to a different company, I’ll need to put a bit of tape on one of them and then I just need to remember which one has the tape on it.

Taking care of business: My poor old chairs
As a vision-impaired person it is often almost impossible to know when spots and stains have invaded my furniture and clothes, and then there are the counters and dressers. This was the sad case when Mom informed me that three of my chairs were stained with water spots.
I know how they got there but I never knew that they were, indeed, there. So, action had to be taken.
Mom tried to remove the stains but no go. So we made the decision to have all 3 chairs reupholstered. It did not take too long for this to be done and now we have 3 great chairs with no stains or spots on them.

My golden friend: My new iPhone
Call me crazy but I am extremely attached to my iPhones. When I had to say so long to my little yellow iPhone 5C, it was very painful for me. I bade her a fond farewell and then I turned to my new friend, an iPhone 8 that is gold in colour.
She is fast and so very easy to navigate. She has so many new features that I truly like. Powering on is very easy and powering off is a gem. My new little friend is everything that I had ever hoped for plus so much more.
Ah, yes! The joys of technology but there are also the infrequent times when technology can be your enemy or, at best, a thorn in one's side.

My beloved work of art: My gingerbread house
I know that I cannot see it but my imagination is more than enough to make me proud of it.
It took me an entire session at pottery class to complete it all; that is, 10 classes and even after that it took a bit of extra time for Mom and Gayle to decorate it for me.
First Joan, my teacher, and I worked on building the body of the house. Then came the roof and after that I had to make lots of candy canes, life savers, and kiss chocolates. Then came the final stage when Mom and Gayle carefully glued the candy canes, life savers, and kiss chocolates onto the house.
Now my gingerbread house sits proudly in my living room and I have managed to share pictures of it with all of my friends. This is what I call hard work and pride!

Refreshing times: At the Apple store
This is a store that never seems to sleep but I have grown accustomed to this and each time I walk in I never stop marveling at how helpful and attentive the staff is.
I do not even need to tell them that I am vision impaired; they always seem to know it. They are alert and very quick to understand my needs. They give me my appointment and then I am back to get my stuff updated and whatever else I need to do.
On my most recent trip I met a wonderful young man whose name is Leandro and he is in a wheelchair. Leandro was so very attentive, accommodating, and so very helpful. He got me going and then handed me over to his colleague to finish off my requests.
This store is located in the Fairview Mall in Scarborough and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking Apple services.

Just my thoughts: Advocating for a better way
There is always a better way to do things and in this light I will humbly submit that there is always a better way to advocate.
No complaining or criticizing, or if it is to be so then let's do it in a professional and respectful way.
More collaborating and committing. More engaging and less ripping each other apart. Can this work? I do think so but it is going to take a mammoth effort from everyone involved.

Scary moments: Ripping up the wrong bill
Every now and then I rip up the wrong bill and this often happens whenever I have a lapse in my organizing or housekeeping functions.
If I place my bills in an ordered manner, so that I know which is which, then the chance of ripping up the wrong one is minimized. But if I forget where I have placed them or how or in what order I have placed them, then look out!
Grocery bills are usually ripped up as soon as I return home from the supermarket and after I have checked my list to make sure that I have bought what I wanted to buy.
All credit card bills that I wish to keep are kept separately and then there are those less important bills for me to either rip up or put in a place for disposal at a later date.
Of course, I could always scan my bills to double check but I have to admit that I am often a bit too tired or lazy to do this.
