One of my favorite things to do: Listening to the sounds of spring
This is just one of my favourite things to do whenever I can spare a moment. Ah yes! Spring! A breath of fresh air and so good for the cleansing of my soul!
Those sweet little birds with voices as pure as a breeze in a bottle! They can reach any note on your piano and exceed any octave. They can hold a beat for longer than most and their lilts are so filled with feeling and love.
Then there is the sound of fast flowing water as it gushes down a drain, a river, or at your feet as you walk in the rain. So free, without any inhibition.
The sound of raindrops beating down on the panes of my windows. Cars squishing along as they drive on rain soaked streets. Gentle breezes rustling through the trees, and then at night, the insect world coming alive.

One of my dearest passions: Recruiting kid advocates
Who better than kids to be our messengers? Who better than them to spread the messages as we have told them to? Who better than kids to be our advocates?
In March 2016 I spoke to a group of kid advocates at the CNIB and I can tell you that it was indeed one of the best experiences that I have had in such a long time.
Their questions were sharp and on the money. They listened, reacted, and proacted. They interacted and were filled with ideas. They were definitely thinking outside the box.
It sure reminded me of another group of kids whose grade school I visited in 2010, the Grove Community School in Toronto, and like that visit when I walked out of this session I looked up at the sky and wondered whether our next Prime Minister could come from among one of this group.

Very humorous: Why she wears her hair piece
Truth be told, I find this to be extremely funny and I am going to share it with you.
In the normal scheme of things, whenever my neighbor answers her door or comes over to see me, she always makes sure to wear her hair piece and she goes to great lengths to ensure that it is on just right.
I cannot see her and so this does not matter to me but for all that it is, she does the same whenever she visits me or answers my knock.
We have laughed at this several times but she still continues to do it and I still continue to smile. I guess that you can say that old habits die hard.

My perspective: The different pin reading machines
Yet another challenge for me to face: getting used to the different pin machines. That is, the layouts and feel of the keys on the pads of the pin machines.
The one at the post office has a different layout and feel than the one at the bank and the one at my favourite electronics store is a wee bit different. There are some that are very similar but on the whole I have to be very attentive whenever I use any sort of pin machine.
I would say that overall, once I know where the keys are, how they are laid out, and where the all-important OK button is, I am good to go.
Just another challenge in my daily life.

A fond memory: Remembering Chris's tea stains
Those were the days when I had such good, functional vision. When I had enough sight to be able to see stains and spills on counter tops. When I could just simply use a cloth or paper towel to clean them up and it was always so much fun and fulfilling for me when I could clean up Chris's tea stains.
At that time I lived in Montreal and I would often go over to visit Chris and have a wonderful cup of tea with her. Along with the good company I would sample her delightful baking.
Chris was a terrific hostess. She cooked and baked so very well. She moved around in her kitchen with little effort and I always admired how she could do it all so well without any incident. She was almost totally blind but it did not stop her from being a wonderful culinary master.
I used to enjoy cleaning up her tea stains. There they were, just sitting boldly there on her counter, waiting for me to wipe them away. Chris would always be amused at how I would attack her tea stains and we would both laugh after I had finished getting rid of them.
Wonderful memories for me to keep forever.

An experience: When I lost my cane's tip
It happened on a very bad winter's day in February 2016 as I was traveling back from Ottawa to Toronto. I had just finished attending an Elections Canada meeting in Gatineau, Quebec, and I'll tell you that this was just one of those days.
Ottawa had received over 52 centimetres of snow but the city had done a superb job of clearing it. I got out of the cab and after having checked in I sat down to wait for my flight and it was then that I realized that my cane was without its tip.
I am not sure where I lost it or when I lost it but I will tell you that it was the very first time in my life that this had ever happened to me.
I did not panic and I was not afraid. I knew that I had to be very careful when using my cane and that I would need to be prepared to have my cane get stuck in cracks and holes from time to time.
Thankfully, I made it home safely, none the worse for wear. The difference here was that I had to use a cane that did not have a tip to help me decipher cracks, holes, and dips and inclines. This is the power of a cane's tip.

A bit of humor: When I thought the shirt was green
I can only smile anytime I find myself not knowing what color something is. It happens from time to time and it did a few weeks ago.
Here I was, thinking that I was wearing a green top and beige pants. I was right about the color of the pants but lo and behold! Mom brought me back to reality.
The top was pink and without the help of one of those color detector gadgets, I had made an error.
I believe that when I was washing my tops I had mixed them up, putting my green top elsewhere. It did not take me too long to find my missing green top and exchange it for the pink one.
