One more time! The Great Computer Crash

 

Seems as if these computer crashes are happening much too often for me.

Once again it happened and this time it was me inadvertently pressing the enter key too quickly and not paying attention. It was early morning and maybe I was still trying to wake up.

Down she went and then it began all over again. I had to seek immediate help from Imad and Shane.

Yes, it got fixed, but time was spent worrying. Good thing that the cost was much lower than the last time.

 Thank goodness for Shane! When he entered my condo he immediately noticed that the petals from my flowers had fallen and had scattered everywhere. He immediately went to work.  

He picked up the messy heaps of flowers and deposited them in my garbage.

I probably would never have known until I went to check on my flowers, a birthday bouquet from Richard and Jane.

Nothing new: The AGM Challenge

 

he thing about this is that when it comes to either attending the AGM or registering my vote, I still need sighted assistance to perform these processes.

It has definitely come a long way and everyone is always willing to help me but I cannot help but hope that at a future meeting I can be as independent as possible.

Faithful washer! My poor washer

I often refer to my washer as an extension of my right hand and I just make sure that I do not overload her when I do my laundry.

She has served me so very well for several years now. She never fails.  She is always standing by at my beck and call.

Yes indeed! The cold indoors!

Braving the cold indoors. In the normal scheme of things, it should be braving the cold outdoors but when the cold winds come earlier than expected, this is what it is.  

When I start to feel cold, I reach for my favourite warm clothes and slip them on. Nothing too much to be concerned about.

Just for me to remember that every now and then these times will sneak up on me.

Exciting times ahead: Getting ready to fly again

 

This is nothing new for me, but as time moves along it continues to be a bit more cumbersome for me.

Oh, yes!  Travel has definitely become more of a challenge and will only continue in this trend as time goes by.

However, the preparations are always almost the same. Gather up my things, pack carefully, make sure I have everything, and then I am ready to leave.

Not many like her : A travel agent with tons of patience

Her name is Radha and I have known her for many years now. Over time, she and I have developed a very close relationship.

We not only work on trips but we also ask about each other’s families.

He is the essence of caring: The ManuLife agent

Here was an agent who went way above the call of duty.

In June 2025 I needed to obtain travel insurance for my trip to the UK and France. What a surprise when I had the pleasure of talking to Joe, a ManuLife agent.

Joe took good care of my needs. He told me that he was very familiar with how a vision-impaired person faces challenges because his mom was herself vision-impaired.

I can honestly say that this agent certainly gave me hope that there are wonderful customer agents out there.

Frustrating and heart breaking! Online request forms a pain to navigate

 I am not sure what recourse there is for someone encountering difficulties with online request forms.  We cannot give up and we must keep on advocating.

This is a widespread problem and although some progress has been made it is not enough and it continues to be a huge barrier for anyone who is either vision-impaired or anyone with technical challenges.

Finally! Elevator announcing the ground floor

 

After much requesting, reaching out, and protesting, the new elevator is finally making an announcement when it gets to the ground floor.

For whereas I know that there are priorities and that everyone is probably trying to make things work, for me as a vision-impaired person, it is really important for an elevator to make the proper and appropriate announcement for each floor.

Some people would say that they do not need this because they can see the visual indicators for each floor. For me, I cannot and I depend on audio announcements.

Sad but true! The missing Mercedes cushion

 

For better or for worse, there are still too many folks amongst us who just cannot help themselves when it comes to taking something that does not belong to them.

This was the case a few months ago when I realized that my precious cushion, an heirloom Mercedes car cushion, had been boldly stolen by one of the contractors who entered my condo to clean the fan coil.

What’s special about this cushion is that it could be transformed from an ordinary looking cushion to a Mercedes Benz car.

For whereas I’ll probably never be able to have this heirloom returned to me, I want the coward to know that I know what they did. They are probably too chicken to own up, let alone to confess.

To steal from someone who is vision-impaired is absolutely horrible!

A refreshing experience: Vancouver's airport

 

What a refreshing experience for me!

Many years ago I visited Vancouver and had the pleasure of being treated to some wonderful warmth and welcome from their staff. Now, so many years later, I was just blown away by the friendliness, warmth, and support that I received when I traveled through this airport in late April 2025.

People were so very kind, generous, and so willing to help me as a vision-impaired person. They simply got it and did not hesitate to show off their knowledge and skills.

I would recommend this airport to anyone who can find a way to travel through the Vancouver Airport.
