I miss it so much! Where are you, my beloved grass?

The winter of 2018 – 2019 was probably one of the coldest and most bitter in memory for me. For the most part I had to deal with lots of snow, ice, very cold winds, and endless days of wintry weather.

I sure missed my beloved grass! It was totally out of sight and for me, who simply loves to walk across lush green grass, bend and gather hands full of blades, enjoy the cool touch of dewdrops on the blades, and smell the fragrance of freshly cut grass, it was simply so sad that I could not do any of these things during the winter.

Now, many would say that in the general scheme of things, there is simply no opportunity to enjoy any of these grassy activities during the winter, but still! I sure missed my beloved grass!

The snowy streets of Montreal

Ah yes! My beloved city and the one that shall always be a part of me! How well I remember this city, from when I had but just a bit of vision to having so much vision and now to having so very little. It does not matter, however! The snowy streets will always stand out in my mind.

Oh, on a cool winter's day as I skidded and slid on the sidewalks doing my best to keep my feet under me. Or simply playing in the snowbanks with my cane as I walked home from school. Or doing my best to fend off the cold as I walked to a restaurant to meet some friends.

On an early December day as I walked on a snowy Montreal street trying to fend off huge snowflakes as they came racing towards my hair and cheeks but I knew that I could never win the battle because they were all ganging up against me; all against one! Then I would have to stand and wait for the Santa Claus parade to go by on a snowy street corner with my hands buried deep in the pockets of my ski jacket!

On a mid February day walking along and doing my best to keep my balance. Cars swishing by and me praying that I would not be splashed by any of these fast-moving cars. Then on a dreary January day as I walked with my head down,
doing my best to avoid the biting winds, the falling snow, and trying to remain upright because below the fluffy carpet of snow there was ice.

So many pictures of those snowy streets of Montreal linger in my mind and will probably do so forever. It does not matter how much vision I had or have now, these are memories forever.

Negotiating the snow banks

I have always enjoyed walking along and on snow banks. It is one of my favorite pastimes during the winter and I still continue to enjoy it. As a blind person, I find snow banks quite an enjoyment and no, I am not trying to be funny. You may be asking why or how could a blind person enjoy walking along or on snow banks.

When I had enough sight to see them, I used to literally stand and take in their innocent beauty, snow banks of all shapes and sizes. I used to take great pleasure in admiring their pure white beauty and the different shapes and sizes of them.

Nowadays, I still do despite the fact that my vision is down to a bare minimum. I can barely see them now, but heck! I can use my cane to explore, discover, and enjoy. Ah yes! Those lovely snowbanks!
