A must do! Time to clean out

 

Ah, yes, and if I do not do this often enough then I am in huge trouble with myself.

I consider myself to be very organized but whenever things start to feel cluttered then I know that it is time to clean out.  This is what happened a few months ago.  

I decided that enough clutter had accumulated in my clothes closets and in my office.  So, I gathered up my strength and energy and attacked the task with as much gusto as I could. And at the end of a few days, it was all done.  Old and unwanted things were piled into boxes and thrown out.  Unwanted clothes were given away to charity.  Old papers were shredded and my office was cleared of clutter.

It sure made me feel better and refreshed.

What happens if I am not? Being careful with the seasonings

 

When it comes to taking care with the seasonings, it does not really matter if you are blind/vision-impaired or sighted.  However, for a blind/vision-impaired person, more care needs to be taken.  Why is this?  

Simple!  Because I, as a vision-impaired person, need to ensure that I am pouring the correct or appropriate amount of liquid seasoning into my bowl or sprinkling the right or appropriate amount of dry seasoning or powder into my bowl.

So, how do I do this correctly?  By measuring everything that I pour.  I first pour liquid or powder or dry seasoning into a spoon or measuring cup.  Then I check to make sure that said seasoning is in my cup or spoon.  Then I proceed to pour said seasoning.

All I need to do is to remember to follow my own advice.

Oh my gosh! Water all over my counter

 It is one thing to discover that there has been a spill all over my counter, but when the spill pertains to water?  Well, it’s another matter to contend with.

In the case of non water spills, I can feel the contents of the spill. But in the case of water, that’s another story.

When water spills occur, I have to do my best to clean it up before the water flows all over my counter.  Water spills spread quickly and there’s no stopping the water.  Whereas in the case of non water spills, the contents often stay put.

Ah, yes!  The difference between water spills and other types of spills!

Good way to go! Rest and relax

This is what I almost always do anytime I find myself getting off track and this usually happens anytime there is either too much noise around me or I have become overwhelmed with attempting to do too many things all at once.

This is really no different for anyone but in the case of too much noise around me, it affects my ability to negotiate and navigate my surroundings. With precious little sight I need to know where things are because I cannot see my surroundings.  

So, what do I do?  I just do my best to minimize noise around me. It is not always easy to do this but I do the best I can.

Easy as you go! Being careful with full containers

No, I am definitely no different when it comes to managing and balancing full containers.  It is the same for any other sighted person.

In short, I just need to concentrate really hard whenever I am either opening a full container or transporting it from counter to fridge.  In the case of opening it, I just make sure that I remove the lid carefully and gently and in the case of transporting it, I make sure that the lid is on securely.

I don’t think that anyone would be happy if the lid were to slip off of a full container and if you did not catch this in time the contents would probably start to spill. Or, that if you did not remove the lid gently and carefully the contents would again spill over?  Just challenges to be aware of.

An interesting experience: Finding new products in the supermarket

This is probably one of the more pleasant things to do on a shopping trip to the supermarket but I can only do this if I have a sighted person with me.  For me, Stephie goes with me and she is always so very happy to tell me if she sees anything new that she feels I have not heard of before.  

I really believe that it is important for me to know when there is something new to know about because, as a blind/vision-impaired shopper, it would be practically impossible for me to discover new things if I do not have sighted help.

This is the only way for me to keep up with what is on the shelves of a supermarket and for me to replenish my awareness of products around me. More often than not, knowing about a new product leads to me either substitute a present purchase for a new one or just add the new product to my list.

A necessary evil! Woes of a colonoscopy

 

This is probably not my favourite medical procedure and I can guarantee you that it is definitely the same for the majority of us; it does not matter whether or not you are a mainstream person.

As a blind/vision-impaired person I need to make sure that I follow the directions as to when to take my medication before the day of the procedure and how frequently I need to take it.  Then, after the procedure I again need to do the same.  No different for anyone but I just need to be extra careful to ensure that I understand what to do and when to take it.

All in a day’s work, as they say!  The worst part is always the awful feelings encountered before and after the procedure.
