What a relief! My cleaned up storage cupboard

I can tell you that this was a very long time in coming and I have to thank Mom, Stephanie, and Nick for helping with this. For far too long everything in my storage cupboard was packed haphazardly, and now it is packed neatly and everything is orderly and organized in a semblance of logic.

No more having to scratch my head when looking for anything.
No more having to sort through all kinds of containers to find a specific container.
No more having to constantly be throwing out unwanted stuff.
As a vision-impaired person, it is so very important for me to be able to find what I seek and in a timely manner.

Just another work around! Using tape to help identify

It’s just another way for me to identify packages but I’ll tell you that means I need to remember more robustly.  So, this is what I have done.

I use pieces of tape to help identify.  The number of pieces of tape signifies what each package is.  However, I need to be more logical and orderly.  It is not an alternative that I would really recommend except if there are just a few packages.

For example:  One piece represents a certain package.  Two pieces represents another package and so on.  Cumbersome you say?  Admittedly, yes!

Oh boy! My cluttered kitchen counter

One way to put myself in a frustrated or confused mood is when I inadvertently clutter my kitchen counter. I need to be able to find what I need in quick time and as a vision-impaired person it is even more important for me.

If I am not well-organized or if I misplace items or forget where I have put them then I am in big trouble.

So what is the solution here? Keep my counter uncluttered.
Easier said than done but I’ll keep on trying.

New possibilities: Finding a new location

It is always very interesting and exciting whenever I need to find a new location to put or place things in my condo and even more exciting whenever Mom helps me to find said new location.

This normally happens whenever we work together to reorganize our condo and on her most recent visit to Canada she and I did just that.  We reorganized, found new locations for all kinds of things, and I was just so very pleased at the outcome.

It just shows that every now and then this needs to be done if we hope to keep things organized and looking good.  A new location also means that things are easy to find!

Must be very careful: Organizing my medications

I place high importance on being able to organize my medications in a logical way for me to be able to safely find, identify, and navigate among them.

I am required to take several medications daily and alas!  Most of the bottles are of the same size and shape.  So. what do I do?

I organize them in groups of categories.  I place identification tape on the bottles so that I know which is which.

The other day, my always on the alert pharmacist told me about talking labels and the next time I go to the pharmacy for my refills I’ll be using these.

Good way to organize: Sorting out the schedule

It is the only way to maintain a balance and to keep my sanity.  I am no different from anyone else but I truly believe that as a blind/vision-impaired person, this needs to be paramount for me or else I’ll find myself in huge difficulty.

Yes, I need to keep my schedule straight and to follow it consistently.

Organization is the word: Searching the freezer

I can honestly tell you that on any given day, searching the freezer can be either of two things: pure frustration or easy to find that which you seek.

In the case of the first, it will be frustrating if you have not taken the time to organize your freezer in such a way that you know where to find that which you seek.  If you have simply thrown everything haphazardly into your freezer then presto!  You will have tons of frustration finding what you are looking for.

On the other hand, if you are an organized person like me and you take extra time to find what you seek, then you will not have a frustrating time.  So, may I suggest that when it comes to searching your freezer, take the additional time to organize methodically.

I’ll even submit that this applies to anyone: sighted or blind/vision-impaired!  Being blind or vision-impaired is not an excuse for having a method to organize your freezer.

Tedious and a necessity: Sorting out the tins

For me, this task never really ends and it is all up to me to make sure that when I sort out the tins that I ensure that they are placed in an organized and logical order and that I am able to find them when I need to.

As someone with precious little vision, it is vitally important for me to be able to find what I am looking for whenever I go searching for a tin, can, or box in my pantry cupboard.

If I sort properly and logically then time spent looking for my desired tin, can, or box is very minimal but if I do not do this then time spent is only going to be long, time consuming, and frustrating.

One great way to stay organized: Rearranging my gadgets

I would openly admit that rearranging my gadgets is just another way for me to stay organized. Some may call me picky and probably wasting time but I truly believe that this is the best way to keep myself on track, to be efficient, and to save lots of time.

So, my gadgets are arranged in a way that makes sense to me. For example; the two phones in my office sit side by side.  My iPhone sits very close to the Apple keyboard that I use to navigate my iPhone if needed. The travel computer sits apart from the desktop computer and the backup computer is also on a different desk. Finally, printer and scanner sit side by side.

Not to forget my Mac, it sits on a separate desk with the Mac external keyboard very close by.

That's the layout of my gadgets.

Thanks to Covid's choke hold: Packing more away

Ever since Covid-19 descended upon the world, I have found myself buying and packing more away each time I go shopping. This means that I now need to be more efficient and organized whenever I pack things away. In particular to ensure that I know where to find what I am looking for whenever I go looking.

I believe that I am naturally a very organized person and it has definitely saved me from sure disaster on several occasions and I do not believe that this has come about because of being vision impaired. However, I would say that it certainly helps to be organized when one is vision impaired.

So, with all of the additional things to pack away when I return from a shopping trip, I need to persevere more, have more stamina, be more creative, and oh yes! Let us not forget the important package of patience.

A must to do: Keeping the jars organized

This is a definite must for me because if I do not then all hell will break loose. It will mean total confusion for me and I'll need to have some sighted assistance to help me reorganize.

If the jars are of a different size or height, it is not too difficult and this is often the case. Or if shapes are different then this helps, as well. Sometimes if I shake a jar I am able to tell its contents.

Of course, simply opening the jar and smelling its contents is the first course of action. However, if I do not wish to open a jar that has not yet been opened, then smelling its contents is out of the question.
