The new technique: Mom's FedEx boxes

I can honestly say that there is one great thing that has come out of this horrible Covid chokehold: the sending of Mom's FedEx boxes.

Since September 2020 I have been sending monthly FedEx boxes to Mom and I am just sorry that I did not discover this wonderful initiative before then. However, nothing before its time and here we are! Just a marvelous way for Mom and me to stay connected.

Because Mom does not have FaceTime, we have had to improvise and here's how. Each month I fill her FedEx box with all kinds of goodies that she has requested plus a few surprises. Then, I top things off with an envelope filled with photos of all kinds of things ranging from me doing various activities to photos taken of various favourite objects in our condo that I know that Mom would want to see.

FaceTime sessions have been a treat for Mom, too, and we have had a few thus far thanks to my sister-in-law Gayle taking time to help out here. But those monthly FedEx boxes have really hit the mark.

Mom anxiously looks forward to her monthly FedEx box and is like a kid in a candy store when she receives her box. I readily admit that I am just as excited to fill her boxes and I truly recognize how important this monthly activity is to us both. In my opinion, there is nothing more exciting than to receive a nice big package every month.

Mom is treated to a variety of goodies and I can just picture her eagerly waiting, receiving, and  then opening her box with a large smile on her face. Then she will meticulously remove each object treasuring each as she goes, but the highlight will be her beloved magazines. Yes! Those magazines

with all kinds of entertainment stories, crossword puzzles, and more.
