Fond childhood memories: Remembering sports day

I have to admit that I was never a very good athlete when I was growing up but somehow I have managed to become a decent one in my adulthood.  Yet, for all of this I do carry some fond memories of sports day with me.

I guess what I remember was that whenever I ran a flat race I had to make sure that I ran straight, following the sound of the bell as it rang from the top of the hill. Then there were the sack races, the egg and spoon races, and finally the obstacle races.

I probably did best in the obstacle races, finishing first on two specific occasions and then coming in third in my final race before going off to high school.  There was one year when I did not do too badly, placing in five races with a first place finish in the obstacle race.

I will say that most of the time I was always a bit embarrassed to participate with my family looking on.  They were so good!  Never criticizing my poor performances; just cheering me on.
