Lots of fun: Making characters at pottery

 

This was a new experience for me and I thank Shaun for introducing me to it.  It was great fun, especially when I could create freely.

It was so very easy to create the arms, legs, body, and oh yes!  Head, face, and then to put my own mark, so to speak, on it.  Shaun guided me.  He provided suggestions and then came the painting of each character.

I still remember my colours so it was easy to put colour to character, so to speak.  In short, I had a great day!

An alternative: Using my light detector

Yes, I definitely know that there are very good apps that I can use on my I phone to help me detect light.  However, for some reason I continue to use this nifty little gadget that I bought many years ago from a boutique at the Montreal Association for the Blind.

It is small and so very simple to use.  All you need to do is to flip a switch and if the gadget buzzes then it is detecting light.  If there is no buzzing sound then there is no light to detect.  Simple, eh?  However, I do not know if this little gem is still in circulation.

I use it to detect if there is light on my computer screen, to tell me if I have turned off the lights in my home, and more.

An irritating moment: Pulling out the wrong thing

 Alas!  This is what happens when I do not take enough time to check what I am pulling out from my freezer and that is what happened in this instance.

First off, I was a bit lazy in organizing my single serving meals. And second, if I had taken the time to do so then this would not have happened.

The worst thing that can happen is when I expect to be eating one thing and then it is entirely something else.  This is what I get for not paying enough attention and as a blind/vision-impaired person it is paramount that I am on top of my game at all times.

I really do not like surprises.

For a person with vision it may not be as important in these circumstances because they can see what they are fetching from the freezer. But for me, it is more important.

A funny moment: When the kettle flipped its lid

 

I have to admit that this was, indeed, very funny.  I really did not pay much attention until I noticed 2 things.

First, the kettle was taking a bit too long to boil its water. Then, I noticed that the sound of the kettle boiling was a bit odd. So, I decided to investigate and presto!

The lid of the kettle was up; the kettle was not closed! What a relief for me as I figured it out. I closed the lid and everything was fine from there on in.

Now, were I sighted, I would have seen this immediately.

Good way to organize: Sorting out the schedule

It is the only way to maintain a balance and to keep my sanity.  I am no different from anyone else but I truly believe that as a blind/vision-impaired person, this needs to be paramount for me or else I’ll find myself in huge difficulty.

Irritating moments: When the box went missing

Another very amusing experience for me.  That is the day that my box went missing.  Thank goodness it did not wander too far away before I caught up with it.

For the meticulous and organized person that I am, at least I thought that I was!  The box was eventually found but not in the place that I thought that I had left it.  This can happen to anyone, eh?

I am just another normal person chasing after missing boxes.

What a surprise! When the liquid soap spilled

 Looking back at this experience I can only smile to myself now.  I had no idea that it had indeed spilled.

I had come home from grocery shopping and had unpacked everything and had put away almost everything.   Then I began to smell something fragrant.  It smelled like apples.

Then it dawned on me that all was not right.  I was missing my apple scented hand soap.  Sure enough!  The poor old bottle lay helplessly on the floor almost empty while the surrounding floor was soaking wet from the spilled liquid soap.

Good thing that my sense of smell was able to clue me in.
