At the best of times, unexpected change is always very challenging to negotiate. But for me, as a vision-impaired person, I find it even more of a challenge.
When Mom visited me in Toronto in 2023, I quickly realized that things had changed. And though I could have been a bit more prepared, it did catch me a bit off guard.
Mom had great difficulty walking. She was slower at moving about. She was more anxious when she encountered certain situations. However, when it came to her mindset and mental capacity, nothing much had changed there.
I simply had to adjust to the new physical limitations for my mom. I took a deep breath and voila! All was good. My vision impairment did not matter at the end of the day. Mom and I were still team A!
