When My Computer Crashed

A few weeks ago the living nightmare happened!  Yes, my computer crashed and like almost everyone else, I literally went into spin cycle.  It is hard enough for the mainstream person at the best of times but when you are blind and are unable to see the screen; you have no idea what has just happened.

Chances are that I would guess correctly but as to exactly what has happened!  No way of telling when your screen reading software does not speak and you are unable to see the screen.  Good thing that my technician was available and when he came over to my office he told me the dreaded words:  "Your hard drive has crashed."  For me, the hardest thing to deal with is not being able to see what's on the screen and there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it because when there is a major crash then everything goes down.  How I wish that someone would come up with some type of device that we can use to read a screen.  Some type of wand that we can move across the screen to tell us what is going on.  Can't blame me for wishing can you?

Maybe some day this will come to pass but in the meantime if you would like to see what types of technology is out there for blind persons plus more, then you can visit www.blindbargains.com.

I'm Donna J. Jodhan your friendly accessibility advocate wishing you a terrific day.

  1. Oh no i bet it was a very terrible experience for you.Because the same thing happened to me too once.I felt as if i was missing something which indeed was true because all my files were gone.A friend came to my rescue not to help me recover my data back but to give me an alternative that would prevent my data from always getting lost and she told me about www.safecopybackup.com.I visited the link and tried out the free 3GB trial version.Wow it was so cool and the setup too did not take much time.So since then till now,i use SafeCopy online backup for backing up all my files.I feel so secure there.

  2. Awwww! It's painful! Like Dorothy, I backup my files online at www.safecopybackup.com. They keep old and deleted files forever. Thou the hard drive crushes I never lose data coz I have easy access to my files with my password using any browser. You too can try it. Am pretty sure you'll sleep better. Good luck.

  3. Hopefully, your wish of having a “crash warning” will be the next update computer manufacturers will work on. To make that happen, sounds will have to be used. That may seem not probable today, but technology is full of surprises. Anyway, I hope it didn’t take you long to solve this issue.

  4. A computer, crashing right before your eyes will really send you into a tailspin! But the your desperation will somehow be lessen if you know you have backed up your computer and you wouldn't completely lost your data. At least, the only thing you need to replace is the hard- drive and not your hard earned documents and long cherished files.
